How To Start Manifesting

To manifest something means to create something or to turn something from an idea into reality. It could be as simple as feeling hungry, thinking of making a sandwich, then getting up to go make a sandwich... thereby having manifested that sandwich into reality. But to manifest something like a new car or a new job isn't quite as easy. The bigger the thing you're trying to manifest, the more time, effort, and focus it will take. People don't typically have problems with the smaller, quicker manifestations, like a sandwich, but when it comes to the bigger things it's easy to lose focus or give up when things aren't happening quick enough. Here's a few tips on how to begin manifesting some of those bigger things you'd like to bring into your life.

Figure Out What You Want

The first step to manifesting is figuring out what you want. There may be lots of things you'd like to manifest but it's best to narrow it down to one thing at a time. By narrowing it down and focusing on one thing at a time you'll be able to give it a lot more energy than you would if you had to split that energy among multiple goals. It's also much more difficult to keep focus on multiple things at the same time which raises the odds of failing at one or all of them.

Make sure you really get to the root of what it is you're wanting. For example, maybe you're wanting more money in your life. When you think of it though, it's not really the money you want. Money itself is useless. It's nothing more than paper or numbers on a screen. Are you wanting more money to gain that sense of security by knowing you'll have everything you need? Are you wanting more money so you can buy nice things and feel successful? Or are you wanting more money so you can have the freedom to travel the world and sleep in whenever you want? Instead of focusing on the broad spectrum category of manifesting money, it may be better to focus on manifesting that sense of security, success, or freedom that you're really craving. Although money could be something that would help you to achieve those things... there's a lot more that could help too.

Physically Set Your Intention

Once you've figured out what you want to manifest, it helps to find some way to physically set your intention. There's a few ways you could go about this.

  • Write it Down - Find a piece of paper and write your intention on it. The act of writing it down and seeing it on paper helps to cement it into your brain more and also helps to serve as a visual reminder. You could write down what you're trying to manifest and below it write a list of ways you're working towards making it happen. Then place it in an area you'll see every morning to start your day off with that visual reminder.

  • Vision Board - If you're not a big fan of words and would like to flex your creative abilities you could create a vision board. Get a piece of poster board or paper then find pictures that help to symbolize your goal and/or what it will be like once you've reached that goal. Maybe you're trying to manifest a new house. In which case you could add pictures of things you'd like your new house to have like a big yard or a pool. You could add pictures that show what you envision your life would be like in your new home or even where you'd like your new home to be. You can find pictures online then print them off or clip them from old magazines. If you're feeling super creative you could even draw or paint your own pictures on your board. Then, just like with writing it down, place it in a spot where you'll see it every day and be reminded of your intention.

  • Journal It - You could get a journal or notebook just for manifestation purposes. Make your first entry about what you're trying to manifest and the things you can do to bring it to fruition. From there you could make it a habit to sit down and write each day about what you're trying to manifest, positive affirmations, what you did or plan to do throughout the day to help, and so on and so forth.

Positive Affirmations

Some people find it helpful to come up with a positive affirmation that they can repeat daily. A positive affirmation is a positive statement relating to what you're trying to manifest that you can repeat to yourself daily or whenever you need to bring your focus back to what you're trying to achieve. It should be worded in a positive manner. For example, instead of "I will not smoke" use "I am happy to be free of smoking" or instead of "I will stop attracting bad relationships" use "All of my relationships are happy and healthy". Your affirmation should also be used in the present tense because like energy attracts like energy. So by putting the energy out there that this goal has already manifested, you are attracting the goal to manifest. Once you've come up with your affirmation you can write it down and put it in places you'll see frequently as a reminder, like on your fridge, bathroom mirror, or desk at work.

Put in The Work

Manifesting what you want isn't like making a wish with a magic genie. You can't just tell the universe what you want and expect it to happen. If it were that easy, everyone would be doing it and there wouldn't be whole books and classes on the subject. In a way I'm very thankful for that. What kind of world would it be if people could just think of something they want and "poof!" it into existence? It would be total chaos, especially if people used that manifesting for some not so good things. So, that means we have to put in some time and effort ourselves to make it happen. It helps to make a list of things you can do on your end to manifest whatever it is you want. It should be things you can focus on doing each day. For example, if you're trying to manifest a better job one of those things on your list may be browsing some job listings each day to see what's out there. You can't expect your dream job to just fall into your lap. It might, and it's nice when it works out that way, but you really shouldn't depend on that happening.

Patience

I hate the word as much as anyone else, but when it comes to manifesting you really have to have patience. It can take a long time depending on what you're trying to manifest but as they say, "good things come to those who wait." Typically, the bigger the thing you're trying to manifest the longer it's going to take. It's important not to give up too soon. Your whole life can change in just one day or even one second. The day you give up on what you're trying to manifest could be the day before that big breakthrough you've been waiting for. Have patience.

Let Go

Sometimes it's important to let go of the outcome you were expecting or how you were expecting to get there. The truth is, we don't always know what's best for us or all the ways in which something could happen. Maybe you're trying to manifest the perfect partner but keep pushing good matches away because they don't meet exactly what you think you need in a partner. Or maybe you're expecting to find that partner on a dating site so you completely ignore the guy at work who's interested and dropping hints. Be open to possibilities that you don't even know exist.

There's a lot more information out there on manifesting and tips to do it. If you're interested in learning more I'd suggest checking out some books on the subject or even taking a class. Take the information that resonates with you and leave the rest because what works for one may not work for all. If you have any tips on manifesting that worked for you or any stories you'd like to share, please leave a comment!
