What is Mediumship?

As I've started to come out with my abilities and offer my services to the public, I've been surprised to see how many people don't know what mediumship is or carry false beliefs and fears about it. There's a lot of misrepresentation out there thanks to Hollywood! One of my goals in life is to help educate people on what mediumship and psychic ability really is and how it works. I'd like to help make it a more mainstream, well-understood subject so that people can begin to understand and strengthen their own abilities. Essentially making it so people won't need to go see a psychic or medium and putting myself out of business... but that's OK! I have other interests too 😉

What is a Medium?

A medium is someone who's sensitive to the presence of those in spirit and has developed that sensitivity to a point where they can communicate with them. During a mediumship session, the medium is essentially a translator for people's loved ones in spirit. Mediums come from all different walks of life and have many differing beliefs and views on religion, politics, social issues, etc. Being a medium doesn't make someone magical or "all knowing" anymore than having blue eyes does. Just because someone is a medium doesn't necessarily mean they're a good or ethical person either, so it's important to do your research to find someone you feel comfortable with and can trust. Be wary of anyone who reaches out to you through private messaging offering you a reading. I don't know of any reputable medium that would be so invasive in offering their services. Also, be sure to run, not walk, if they tell you they can reunite you with your ex, help you win massive amounts of money, or mention anything about curses. These types of people give real psychics and mediums a bad name and detract from the validity of the field. Although it does happen, I will say it is the exception rather than the rule. Most of the fellow psychics, mediums, and healers that I've met along the way have been wonderful people with some amazing abilities.

Mediumship Reading vs. Psychic Reading: What's the Difference?

A psychic will read the energy of the person in front of them to pick up on things happening in their life from the past, present, or future on a physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual level. Someone might see a psychic to gain better insight or direction on their personal relationships, career, finances, health, soul purpose, etc.

A medium is sensitive to the spirit world and helps to connect people with their loved ones in spirit. An evidential medium will give information about someone's loved ones (such as age, relationship, appearance, personality, cause of passing, hobbies, shared memories, etc.) that could not otherwise be known unless they were actually communicating with that person in spirit. This information serves as "evidence" that life continues after the physical body stops. Mediums usually bring through messages from a person's loved ones in spirit as well.

All mediums are psychic, but not all psychics are mediums. A mediumship reading is done by using the psychic senses. So, if someone is able to do a mediumship reading they're also able to do a psychic reading. Whether they choose to offer that as a service or not is their own choice. Mediumship is just about connecting with and reading the energy of a person in spirit instead of the person in front of you. Everyone has the ability to do this because we're all born with these psychic senses to varying degrees. It's just a matter of taking the time and effort to learn about and develop those senses to a point where you can use them to help yourself and/or others.

What to Expect During a Mediumship Session

Each medium has their own style and will do things a bit differently, but here's what you can expect during a session with me. I usually start by taking a few moments to explain my process and answer any questions. Then I close my eyes and take a moment or two to connect. Once I begin to feel someone in spirit, I start describing them by giving information about their physical appearance, personality, how they dressed, their relationship with you, their passing, shared memories, where they lived, hobbies, and so on and so forth. Each reading is different with the information that comes through just like each conversation with a person you meet in life may be different. After each piece of information, I'll check-in to see if it's making sense or not. I do this because I don't want to go on and on about someone in spirit while the person I'm reading for is sitting there with no idea who or what I'm talking about. Just a simple "yes", "no", or "I'm not sure" helps me to know if I'm making that connection or not and helps to build the energy of the reading. If, for whatever reason, I'm not able to make that connection (it's rare but happens to all mediums from time-to-time), I offer a full refund. I believe my job as the medium is to connect people with their loved ones in spirit and I don't want to accept payment for a job not done.

Be wary of any medium who insists they are connecting with your loved one even though you don't understand any of the information being presented or who presents evidence that is extremely vague and could fit any number of people you know. Not every detail brought forward in the reading will necessarily knock your socks off, but there should be bits in there that are quite specific to your loved one and leave you knowing without a doubt that they're really there with you.

Most importantly, you should expect healing and validation during your mediumship session. I've seen and been a part of some amazing sessions that have changed people's lives and/or way of thinking forever. While not every session may be life changing, every session should leave you walking away with a newfound sense of love, hope, healing, validation, inspiration, and/or knowledge that what makes us "us" really does go on and our loved ones truly are always with us 💜
